On January 3, 2024, the International Centre for Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO (ICEE) and China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) held the 2024 Annual Work Symposium at Tsinghua University. BAI Yinzhan, Chairman of Board of Directors of CHEC, SU Yansong, Vice President of CHEC, Prof. YUAN Si, Executive Director of ICEE, Prof. WANG Sunyu, Deputy Executive Director and Secretary General of ICEE, QIAO Weifeng, Assistant to Secretary-General and Associate Professor of Research of ICEE, Assistant to Secretary-General SHEN Ye, and XU Lihui attended the symposium. Prof. WANG Sunyu presided over the symposium.
At the symposium
Prof. YUAN Si welcomed the arrival of BAI Yinzhan and his entourage and expressed gratitude to CHEC for its support as a ICEE’s global partner.
SU Yansong delivered a report entitled “Cultivating Professionals with International Vision through Localized Practices of Global Engineering Education” to summarize the annual work of the Base of Global Leadership Development, ICEE (the Base) in 2023. He mentioned that over the past year, the Base had fulfilled its responsibilities and mission which ICEE entrusted to it, and achieved fruitful results by accelerating the cultivation of localized talents, particularly those in Africa, attaching great importance to the cultivation of female engineers, supporting Tsinghua students in overseas practices, organizing expert teams to conduct overseas research, inviting corporate executives to give lectures in universities, and promoting the integration of Chinese and international standards.
QIAO Weifeng reviewed the progress of ICEE in the past year and outlined its key tasks in 2024. He said that the achievements made by the Base in 2023 reflect the overseas promotion of China engineering education, as well as initial implementation of Director YUAN Si’s idea of strategic cooperation, namely “from engineering, on engineering, for engineering and to engineering”. He added that CHEC had established a profound friendship with ICEE, and hoped that the two sides would make joint efforts to combine research strengths with educational and training advantages and engage in more in-depth cooperation in 2024.
BAI Yinzhan, on behalf of CHEC, expressed his gratitude to the leaders of ICEE for their support for and recognition of the work of the Base. He said that CHEC highly values the development of the Base. CHEC has taken the initiative to take responsibility and actively promoted the development of international engineering education. Adhering to innovation-driven development, it has explored innovative approaches to talents cultivation to overcome challenges. CHEC is committed to cultivating talents through platform-based cooperation and exchanges on the basis of a global marketing network. It emphasizes long-term development and nurtures future engineers for the national rejuvenation. He hoped that ICEE will continue to care for and support CHEC’s development, and join hands with CHEC to advance the international engineering education.
Prof. YUAN Si highly praised CHEC for its high-quality implementation of national strategies and its proactive, systematic training localized talents. He said that CHEC is an important cooperative partner of ICEE. In the process of talent cultivation, CHEC has adopted differentiated talent training objectives, created localized training environments, implemented diversified training measures, and established an internationalized training platforms, thereby forming a ‘four-dimensional’ talent cultivation model, and establishing an international network of engineering talents.
Other attendees included LI Haiquan, Deputy General Manager of the Human Resources Department of CHEC, SUN Zhuang, Assistant Director of Administration Department of CHEC, SHI Zhongqiang, Business Manager of the Human Resources Department of CHEC, and LI Chao from ICEE.
