ICEE Participates in the Communication and Exchange Meeting of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO

On the morning of March 13, 2025, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO (hereinafter referred to as the "National Commission for UNESCO") held an online communication and exchange meeting. The meeting was chaired by QIN Changwei, Secretary General of the National Commission for UNESCO, and attended by ZHANG Songyun and GUO Zhijun from the Commission. WANG Sunyu, Deputy Director and Secretary General of UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE), QIAO Weifeng, Assistant to Secretary General of ICEE, and XU Lihui, Assistant to Secretary General of ICEE, attended the meeting.

QIN Changwei emphasized the importance of fully implementing the key address delivered by XI Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, at the National Education Conference. He urged UNESCO-affiliated institutions to actively carry out the Outline of the Plan for Building an Education Powerhouse (2024–2035), strengthen cooperation between China and UNESCO, and take on a greater role in global education governance.

WANG Sunyu highlighted that, under the leadership of the National Commission for UNESCO, ICEE has been actively engaged in major international cooperation projects since its establishment. These include contributions to the Second UNESCO Engineering Report and the revision of the Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies (GAPC) Framework by the International Engineering Alliance (IEA), with strong support from Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. As a leading think tank in international engineering education, ICEE has played a crucial role in shaping relevant policies in China through strategic consulting research projects. Additionally, it has launched a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of engineering education and training from a global perspective. This year, ICEE will co-host the 5th International Conference on Women's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovation Economy in collaboration with the UNESCO International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation (ISTIC). Looking ahead, ICEE will leverage the Third UNESCO Engineering Report project to deepen its involvement in the international governance of engineering education and further strengthen its global influence.

The meeting focused on exploring new ideas and strategies for global education governance. Key discussions covered the role of UNESCO Category 2 centers in education, UNESCO Chairs, and sister universities in China in actively contributing to global education topics setting, the drafting of key reports, and capacity-building initiatives. A total of 19 institutions, including China's Category 2 centers, UNESCO Chairs, and other partner organizations, participated in the meeting.
