On October 31, 2024, a delegation of experts from the European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI) and the UCPBL at Aalborg University in Denmark visited the International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE) and held a symposium. Professor Greet Langie, Vice President of SEFI and former Vice Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Leuven in Belgium, Professor Du Xiangyun, Director of the UCPBL at Aalborg University, Associate Professor Aida Guerra, Deputy Director of the UCPBL at Aalborg University, Professor Wang Sunyu, Executive Deputy Director and Secretary General of ICEE, and Assistant to Secretary General of ICEE, Xu Lihui attended the symposium. Qiao Weifeng, Assistant to Secretary General of ICEE and Associate Professor of Research, chaired the meeting.
Wang Sunyu, representing ICEE, warmly welcomed SEFI and UCPBL delegation. He stated that since its establishment, ICEE has maintained friendly and close relationships with well-known European universities and international education organizations. He expressed hope that both sides will continue to strengthen exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, and jointly promote the development of engineering education in Europe and the improvement the quality of global engineering education.
Symposium on-site
Xu Lihui presented a detailed overview of ICEE's major work and achievements in recent years. He highlighted that through extensive collaboration with international organizations and global partners, ICEE is steadily building a wide-reaching and robust international exchange network in the field of engineering education.
Du Xiangyun introduced the UCPBL at Aalborg University and expressed her hope to strengthen collaboration with ICEE. She emphasized her commitment to expanding partnerships in engineering education across Africa and advancing the high-quality development of global engineering education.
Greet Langie introduced SEFI, noting that SEFI and ICEE have successfully organized multiple international workshops for engineering teacher training. These events have significantly advanced the exchange and dissemination of global engineering education concepts. She expressed hope for continued strengthening of international cooperation.
Qiao Weifeng discussed the previous international engineering education workshops jointly organized by ICEE, SEFI, and the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES). Both parties engaged in detailed discussions regarding key aspects of the next workshop, including its timing and theme.
The meeting also explored future collaboration between ICEE, SEFI, and UCPBL. Key topics included continued in-depth academic research partnerships, sharing insights from UNESCO Category II centers, inviting experts to participate in each other’s academic conferences to enhance scholarly exchange, and jointly advancing the development of the English-language journal Engineering Education Review.
