On November 8, 2024, the International Centre for Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO (ICEE) was invited to attend the 2024 International Engineering Congress themed “Sustainable Engineering for a Better Future” in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. The event was founded and hosted by the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP). Guests attending the opening ceremony included KE Jixin, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, Aung Kyaw Myat, President of FEIAP and President of Myanmar Engineering Council, LI Yueqi, Secretary of the CPC Taizhou Municipal Committee, Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, LUO Hui, Director of the Department of International Affairs of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST ), Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE) and Joint Secretary-General of CSE Secretariat, Mustafa Shehu, President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), who delivered a video speech, Kazawadi Papias Dedek, President of the Federation of African Engineering Organizations, Aridaí Herrera, President of the Pan American Union of Engineering Societies (UPADI), JIN Donghan, Vice Chairman of CSE, President of Tianjin University and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Tan Seng Chuan President-elect of WFEO, GONG Ke, former President of WFEO, SI Jianmin, President of Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, and Germán Pardo Albarracin, President-elect, Pan American Federation of Engineering Societies.

The event invited the leaders of 50 international organizations from 41 countries, representatives from relevant institutions, experts in the field of engineering science and technology, representatives of winners of the National Outstanding Engineer Award, as well as representatives from China Association for Science and Technology, universities, and engineers from enterprises. The participants explored the ways to strengthen international engineering education and engineering capacity building, actively participate in global science and technology governance and create a better future through engineering technology. At the meeting, a series of memorandums of understanding (MoU) on cooperation and cooperation framework agreements were signed. The signatories would formally establish multi-party strategic partnership and actively promote the sustainable development of international engineering cooperation.
During the event, WANG Sunyu was interviewed by a reporter from Taizhou TV Station. WANG said this event is of great significance to Taizhou City and Zhejiang Province, and more importantly, will have a positive impact on the cultivation of outstanding engineers with global vision. How to attract more outstanding young people to devote to the engineering profession and how to foster a new generation of engineers and great craftsmen are major tasks for the development of engineering education in the future. It is hoped that with the concerted efforts, the development of engineering education will be closely integrated with engineering technology, engineering science, engineering management and engineering culture, so as to make greater engineering contributions to the sustainable development of China and the world.
An Interview with WANG Sunyu
During the event, an expert consultation meeting of the CSE on international mutual recognition of engineering qualifications was held. The meeting was presided over by QIAO Weifeng, and was attended by WANG Sunyu, Secretary General of ICEE, OUYANG Wu, Vice Chairperson of CSE Decision-making Advisory Committee, FAN Yingyan, Vice President of FEIAP-CHINA, JIANG Changcai, Vice President of Zhejiang Engineers Institution, and CHEN Liang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Architectural Society of China. ZHANG Mingtian from the CSE secretariat as well as ICEE postdoctoral fellows FU Jie, TAO Jinhu and CHANG Xiaohan also attended the meeting.
