Jian Song is a Professor and Doctoral supervisor of the Electric Engineering Department of Tsinghua University. He received his B. Eng and PhD degrees from Electronic Engineering Department, Tsinghua University, China in 1990 and 1995, respectively and worked for the same university upon his graduation. He then conducted Postdoctoral research work in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and University of Waterloo, Canada in 1996 and 1997, respectively. Then he joined the industry and has been with the Advance Development Group of Hughes Network Systems in USA for seven years before joining the faculty team in Tsinghua in 2005 as a full professor.
He is the Fellow of IEEE, IET, the Chinese Institute of Electronics and China Institute of Communications. He serves as the Founding Editor of Intelligent and Converged Networks, ITU Academic Journal, Vice Chair of ITU Task Group 6A, Associate Editor of IEEE Transaction on Broadcasting, National Academic Journal, IEEE Access Managing Editor of China Radio Television Technology Association.
He has published more than 300 academic papers and many academic monographs. He has two U.S. patents and more than 80 Chinese patents.
He won the first Prize of China Science and Technology Progress in 2016 and the Geneva International Gold Medal for Invention in 2019 and 2022.
