Yi Luo is a professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, deputy director of Beijing National Research Center for Information Science and Technology. He received his B.S. degree from Tsinghua University in 1983, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1987 and 1990, respectively. He has been a professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University since 1992. His research focuses on compound semiconductor optoelectronic devices and their integrated application technologies, including DFB lasers, LEDs, light modulators, and photodetectors, and their applications in optical fiber communication, broadband information sensing, and semiconductor lighting.
