On November 10th, Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO and accompanying officials visited the International Centre for Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO (ICEE). WU Qidi, former Vice Minister of Ministry of Education (MOE), China, Vice Chairperson and Director of ICEE met with Irina Bokova at the Central Main Building of Tsinghua University. YUAN Si, former Vice President of Tsinghua University and Executive Director of ICEE, WANG Sunyu, Deputy Executive Director and Secretary General of ICEE, QIAO Weifeng, Assistant Professor of Research of ICEE, Assistant to Secretary-General of ICEE, XU Lihui and SHEN Ye, attended the meeting.

On behalf of ICEE, WU Qidi welcomed Irina Bokova and thanked her for her constant concern and support to ICEE. YUAN Si introduced the progress and achievements of ICEE in consultancy research, talent development and international cooperation and exchanges in international engineering education in recent years.

Irina Bokova introduced relevant initiatives and practical work of UNESCO, and discussed how to promote the innivation in education and science and support the development of women in science, technology and education. She believed that educational innovation on a global scale is very important because it can help solve many problems. The relationship between big data and economic development was also discussed, as well as the challenges in climate change and ecological conservation. Irina Bokova hoped that ICEE, which boasts a profound research foundation and an extensive international network in the field of engineering education, would continue to exert its influence with the support of UNESCO.

After the meeting, WU Qidi presented Irina Bokova with the UNESCO Engineering Report II, which was jointly supported by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Tsinghua University and co-published by ICEE.

In June 2016, on behalf of UNESCO, Irina Bokova attended the signing and unveiling ceremony of ICEE in Beijing, together with ZHOU Ji, then President of CAE, QIU Yong, then President of Tsinghua University, and WU Qidi, former Vice Minister of MOE, China.
