On the afternoon of November 9, Edward Crawley, Co-chairperson of the Advisory Board of the International Centre for Engineering Education under the Auspices of UNESCO (ICEE), Honorary Professor of Tsinghua University and Academic Advisor of Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center (Tsinghua SEA), and his entourage visited Tsinghua University. WANG Xiqin, President of Tsinghua University, met them at the Gong Zi Ting, and the two sides exchanged views on the construction and development of Tsinghua SEA. 

Prof. WANG Sunyu, Deputy Executive Director and Secretary General of ICEE, and heads of relevant departments such as the Office of International Affairs, the Institute of Education and the School of Continuing Education, Tsinghua University attended the meeting.

 
WANG Xiqin meets Edward Crawley

WANG Xiqin thanked Edward Crawley for his efforts in the construction and development of Tsinghua SEA. He said that the center is one of the important parts of Tsinghua University’s global strategy, and has yielded good results in professional education and training and cultural exchanges since its establishment. In the future, he hoped that Tsinghua SEA would actively build a platform for international communication and dialogues on public issues such as public health, climate change and artificial intelligence governance, and play a greater role in promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Indonesia, South-East Asia and indeed the world.

Edward Crawley introduced Tsinghua SEA’s projects on education, training and exchange, and expressed his hope that in the future, Tsinghua SEA would cooperate with more institutions and departments as well as experts and scholars in related fields in Tsinghua University, focusing on promoting a series of research and professional education programmes via “digitalization”, so as to better play its role in promoting academic exchanges, faciliating international cooperation, and serving local social and economic development, etc.
 
Edward Crawley is an internationally renowned scholar in aerospace structures and engineering education. He is a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Co-chairperson of the Advisory Board of ICEE, and the founder of the CDIO (Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate) engineering education model. He was appointed honorary professor of Tsinghua University in 2020. Prof. Crawley now serves as Academic Advisor of Tsinghua SEA, Chairperson of the Management Committee of Tsinghua SEA Foundation, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Education, Tsinghua University.
