On March 23, a forum themed by the “Overseas Social Practice Programs of Tsinghua University during the 2023 Winter Break” was held at Tsinghua University. LIU Kai, Deputy Director of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CCYL), CUI Jing, Director of the International Liaison Department of the CCYL Beijing Committee, WANG Rui, Secretary of the CCYL Tsinghua University Committee, and more than 200 teachers and students attended the event. The overseas practical activities for the teachers and students from Tsinghua University to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia organized by the ICEE Base of Global Leadership Development won gold and silver prizes, respectively.

In February 2023, the students from the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University went to Saudi Arabia for overseas social practice, focusing on the history and current situation of diplomatic relations between China and Saudi Arabia, and exploring the ways to promote bilateral cooperation under the “Saudi Vision 2030” and China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). They visited the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) Sheybarah Project Cluster and others. Through the overseas practice activities, the students had a better understanding of different civilizations and cultures and also gained personal experience on “a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind”.
   
The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project, a railway project undertaken by CHEC, is the largest overseas infrastructure construction of China in the countries and regions involved in BRI. In February, 2023, the practice team of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering from Tsinghua University took part in an onsite investigation of the construction sites of Pahang River Grand Bridge and Maran T-Beam Fabrication Yard of the Sixth Division of ECRL. They had an exchange with the Chinese engineers stationed there on key and difficult points in the construction of the Grand Bridge, and explored potential solutions with their professional knowledge.
 
The Base of Global Leadership Development, ICEE (the Base) was co-founded by ICEE and CHEC in 2021 to promote engineering education and capacity building under the UN SDGs. The overseas practice activities in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia organized by the Base provided opportunities for the engineering students from Tsinghua University to learn about overseas projects, improve their communication ability, and broaden their international vision. In the future, the Base will continue helping students from Tsinghua University with overseas practice projects, and enable more students to study abroad.
