The 58th and 59th Higher Education Expo China (HEEC) was held in Chongqing City from April 8 to 10, 2023. Prof. WANG Sunyu, Deputy Executive Director and Secretary General of ICEE, and QIAO Weifeng, an associate research fellow at ICEE, attended the HEEC.
 
Prof. WANG Sunyu was invited to attend the Sixth China Higher Engineering Education Conference and delivered a report titled Challenges and Trends in the Development of International Engineering Education at the Engineering Practice and Innovative Education Sub-forum. His report focused on the challenges and trends in engineering education development, as well as his own thoughts. International engineering education is now faced with multiple challenges, such as responding to industrial digital and intelligent transformation, adjustment of the global industrial chain, promoting the sustainable development of economy, society and environment, maintaining and improving the skills of a large population, and supporting the sustainable vocational development of engineers. Interdisciplinary learning, lifelong learning and continuous improvement of professional abilities will be a normal practice, and the need for international mutual recognition of engineer qualifications and transnational mobility of engineers will become more urgent. It is a long-term, arduous task to build a higher quality engineer training system.

At the Engineering Practice and Innovative Education Sub-forum, Prof. LI Shuangshou, Director of the Fundamental Industry Training Center, Tsinghua University and Deputy Director of the Engineering Training and Teaching Steering Committee, Ministry of Education (MOE), as well as directors of the industrial training centers from Southwest Jiaotong University, Tsinghua-McKinsey Digital Capability Center (DCC), Shanghai University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, etc. shared their ideas.
 
WU Yan, Vice Minister of MOE, and DU Yubo, Chairperson of China Association of Higher Education, delivered a speech respectively at the opening ceremony. The HEEC, themed by Cooperation between Universities and Local Governments and Industry-Education Integration for High Quality Development, involved three sections, namely high-tech equipment exhibition, high-level conferences and forums, and the release of information technology and high-end achievements. During the event, over 80 conferences and forums were held, such as the Innovative Development of Higher Education and the Third University Presidents Forum, the Second Sci-Tech Innovation China: University Technology Trading Conference, and the Sixth China Higher Engineering Education Conference. A total of nearly 20 members of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences, over 1,000 college leaders, and more than 1,000 experts and scholars attended related activities. Besides, the event also attracted more than 90,000 audience offline and 16 million online.
