On June 24, the Forum on International Engineering Management Talent Cultivation was held at Tsinghua University. The forum, themed “Towards a Sustainable World”, was jointly sponsored by International Centre for Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO (ICEE) and the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University, and organized by MEM Education Center, Tsinghua University. The attendees at the forum included Prof. LI Jingshan, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University, Prof. ZHANG Wei, Director of MEM Education Center, Tsinghua University, Associate Professor LYU Xiaojie, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, Tsinghua University, Prof. Gavriel Salvendy, Member of the United States National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Prof. Fouad Bennis, former Director of the International Relations Department, Centrale Nantes, France, and Prof. WANG Sunyu, Deputy Executive Director and Secretary General of ICEE.
At the beginning of the forum, Prof. LI Jingshan and Deputy Director LYU Xiaojie gave welcome speeches. Then Prof. Gavriel Salvendy, member of the NAE and the founding head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University, delivered a speech on the objectives and important social influence of engineering talents cultivation. Prof. Fouad Bennis from France shared his personal experience in teaching engineering management education.

Prof. WANG Sunyu delivered a keynote speech at the forum. He explored the capacity-building needs of international engineering talents from the perspective of sustainable development, and set forth his views that the education sector should cultivate high-quality engineering talents for the human community, and in particular, new efforts should be made in engineering management and engineering culture. Prof. ZHANG Wei introduced the evolution of the international Master of Engineering Management (iMEM) program of Tsinghua University, demonstrating its growth and progress.

In the afternoon of June 24 and 25, sub-forums on MEM Program Management Exchanges, Seminar on International Talent Cultivation, and Experience Sharing on the Career Development of International Students and Alumni were held respectively. All the sub-forums included theme-based exchanges, experience sharing, theme-based survey and feedback, etc., witnessed heated discussions and achieved fruitful results, providing strong support for further facilitating the cultivation of international engineering management talents.

The forum was also attended by the representatives from international strategic partnerships of Tsinghua University, RWTH Aachen University (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen) in Germany and Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano), Italy; representatives from Centrale Nantes, France and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), Brazil; representatives from domestic universities engaging in cultivation of international engineering management talents, such as Peking University; representatives from Chinese-funded enterprises with overseas business; as well as international postgraduate alumni and some fresh graduates of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University.
