On June 3, 2023, the High-end Forum on China’s Science and Education Development & the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Institute of China’s Science, Technology and Education Policy (ICSTEP), Zhejiang University took place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. REN Shaobo, Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University, HOU Wanjun, former Director General of the Department of Education, Science, Culture and Health of the Research Office of the State Council, WANG Zhenhai, Director of Bureau II of China Academy of Engineering (CAE), and XUE Qiang, Level II Counsel of the Department of Strategy and Planning of the Ministry of Science and Technology, attended the event. Other attendees included WANG Sunyu, a professor of the Institute of Education, Tsinghua University and Deputy Director and Secretary-General of ICEE, LIN Jian, a professor of the Institute of Education, Tsinghua University and Executive Director of the National Talent-Introduction Base for the Interdisciplinary Innovation of Engineering Education, and FU Jie, postdoctoral fellow of the Institute of Education, Tsinghua University.

At the High-end Forum on China’s Science and Education Development, the experts and scholars discussed major theoretical and practical issues on the development of science and education in China, and envisioned the strategic blueprint for invigorating China through science and education, developing a quality workforce and the innovation-driven development. Pioneer cases of China’s engineering education reform were released at the forum, and the science and education strategy database was launched to facilitate the discipline development in the science and education field and the innovative paradigm of think tank research.
 

 
Prof. LIN Jian attends the Seminar on the Construction of Engineering Pedagogy Discipline

In the afternoon, the Seminar on the Construction of Engineering Pedagogy Discipline was held. The representatives and relevant leaders and experts from the first batch of ten pilot universities of engineering pedagogy subdiscipline, such as Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, etc, participated in the seminar. Prof. WANG Sunyu and Prof. LIN Jian attended the seminar on behalf of Tsinghua University. The experts had a heated discussion on important issues on the construction of engineering pedagogy discipline, such as exploring ways to build a theoretical system of engineering education with Chinese characteristics, student enrollment and training, establishing a regular exchange mechanism and platform, setting up a sharing mechanism for teaching, curriculum, textbooks and other resources, and construction of teaching staff, and put forward relevant policy recommendations.
