On March 5, 2024, a delegation from the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation (ISTIC) under the Auspices of UNESCO visited the International Centre for Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO (ICEE) and had an exchange meeting. Mr. Mohd Basyaruddin Abdul Rahman, Chair of ISTIC-UNESCO Governing Board, Ms. Tengku Sharizad Tengku Dahlan, Director of ISTIC, Ms. Sharifah Maimunah Syed Zin, former Director of ISTIC, WANG Sunyu, Deputy Executive Director and Secretary-General of ICEE, KANG Jincheng, Strategic Specialistof ICEE and former Director of the International Cooperation Bureau of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and XU Lihui, Assistant to Secretary-General of ICEE attended the meeting.
WANG Sunyu extended a warm welcome to the ISTIC delegation. He said that as UNESCO category II centres, ISTIC and ICEE have a long history of friendly cooperation and will continue to maintain close cooperation to jointly contribute to the sustainable development through engineering and international scientific and technological cooperation and innovation.
Mr. Mohd Basyaruddin Abdul Rahman first thanked ICEE for its warm reception, and introduced the current work of ISTIC and the 5th Biennial International Conference on Women in Science, Technology,Innovation and Economy to be held in the second half of 2024.
According to the Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5) of the United Nations that aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, the biennial international conference is expected to establish a direct connection with this global agenda by addressing the persistent gender differences in science, technology and innovation. It calls on women to fully and effectively participate in political and economic life and calls for equal opportunities for women. The two sides had detailed exchanges on joint preparations for the upcoming 5th International Conference on Women in Science, Technology and Innovation and Economy, and explored other potential cooperation opportunities.
